WilsonSevereWX purpose statement

We are a Twitter account dedicated to Wilson County, Tennessee.  We are part of a network of nowcasters in the metro Nashville area.

We do two things.

1. We tweet comprehensive, real time severe weather information specific to Wilson County, TN. We are not trying to cover storms for any other location.  Twitter is great because you can get it on your phone or computer, and you don’t have to be in front of the TV to stay informed. Using fancy radar data, and dialed into the National Weather Service’s internal chat, we provide detailed information about forecasts, watches, warnings, ETAs, hail, severe wind, lightning, tornadoes, snow and other severe weather. We also provide daily forecasts, by 7 a.m.

2. We have partnered with the National Weather Service (Nashville) to immediately relay severe & winter weather reports you tweet to the NWS. We call this tSpotter.

If you see:

        TORNADO
        FUNNEL CLOUD
        FLOODING
        HAIL >= 1/2 INCH
        WINDS > 50 MPH (MEASURED)
        STRUCTURAL DAMAGE
        TREES OR POWER LINES DOWN
        and
        SNOW/FLURRIES

Let us know ASAP by tweeting your report with hashtag #tSpotter.  Tweets with photos and specific locations (geotagged) are best. Your reports assist the NWS in issuing severe weather warnings and advisories. The NWS only has radar, which can not see what is happening on the ground. Your report is a public service which improves the warning process, furthering the NWS mission of protecting life and property.
